Bathed by the waters of the pacific Ocean, and at an average altitude of 34 masl, the coastal strip of the Department of La Libertad is blessed with a warm and sunny climate during a large part of the year. Here, although the average annual temperature is 18° C, in the summer it can exceed 28° C; there is also a brief period of garúas (fine rain drizzle) which wets the countryside between June and August. From 3,000 ,masl and above, the Highlands area has a dry, cool climate during the day, and cold at night, and a very cold winter between January and march.
